Academy Alumni Donates Sculpture as Token of Appreciation

GHAA alumni Ian Carr (visual arts class of 2005) has been around the world but has never forgotten his Academy roots. Shortly after graduating from the visual arts program at GHAA, Carr moved to Amsterdam to study fine art and design at Gerrit Rietveld Academie. He remained in the Netherlands for an additional seven years before moving to New York City, where his work has been featured in Gotham Magazine’s “8 Artists New Yorkers Need to Know.”

In recent years, he opened a studio in Middletown and has offered to give a masterclasses to current GHAA students. Unfortunately, a recent family illness, along with other challenges, prevented that from happening.

Recently, he has been invited to Istanbul, Turkey to build a new body of sculptor work. Carr however; has never forgotten the impact the Academy has had on him citing GHAA for starting his creative career. As a thank you and appreciation to the Academy, he is donating one of his sculpture pieces to be displayed on our campus.
