Academy Filmmakers Selected for Festival

Two Creative Writing/Media Arts students from the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts have had their documentary films selected for the New Haven Documentary Film Festival.  Verne Mackoff, full-day senior from Glastonbury, submitted the film “Civility”, which centers on accountability and language, exploring the words we use and how we perceive their political implications and how they unite or divide us.

Scott Timothy, half-day junior from Portland, submitted his film “Safe Spaces”, which addresses student and staff reaction to safe spaces in school environments and how much they feel students are free to be themselves.

The New Haven Documentary Film Festival runs from June 1st - June 11th. Both of the above films will be presented on the festival’s fourth day in the New Haven Public Library. Admission is free.
