Pre-Kindergarten


Welcome to CREC’s Early Childhood Program. Our goal is to provide your child with a healthy, safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment. Each CREC school is a public school offering a unique theme that allows children to identify, refine and develop their talents and interests. Each school provides a diverse learning community that prepares children for living and learning as global citizens in a diverse environment. Our schools offer a personalized educational approach for each child in a curriculum designed to spark a lasting appreciation for knowledge.  The focus of our early childhood curriculum is not just an accumulation of facts and skills but rather the strengthening of an ability to reason and think independently.

CREC offers PreK for children ages 3-5 in all of our elementary schools and at the CREC Preschool at Progress Drive. Early learning is also available in our Montessori primary classrooms.  CREC Magnet Schools preschool classrooms are proudly NAEYC accredited.

Helping your child learn outside of school: 

  • Encourage your child to be independent (i.e., dress independently, practice zippers and buttons, blow his/her own nose, use the toilet unassisted, follow a set routine at home)
  • Listen to stories everyday! Have a conversation with your child about the books that you read
  • Count everything!
  • Sort everyday objects - toys, laundry, groceries, etc.

  • Encourage your child to play with the sounds of language, including syllables, rhymes, songs and fingerplays

  • Help your child identify letters and the sounds they represent

  • Encourage your child to write letters that represent the sounds of words

  • Expose your child to social experiences by attending a playgroup, the library, a museum, music/art/gym
  • Build, construct, paint, and draw
  • Engage in pretend play 
  • Sing and respond to music
  • Pyramid Model Resources - This monthly newsletter focuses on social emotional learning and development.  It’s full of helpful tips and resources for both providers and families.
