Health

At CREC we strive to ensure that every child learns the skills necessary to make health enhancing decisions regarding their own health and advocate for changes to help improve the health of individuals in their family, school, community and beyond.  These skills are designed to help our students make healthy decisions to improve their health now and throughout their lifetime.

PreK - Grade 2

  • Learn About Health: Children will understand what it means to be healthy, identify their strengths, and practice behaviors that keep them well.
  • Stay Safe and Prevent Illness: Children will learn ways to prevent injuries and stay healthy, including when to seek help from trusted adults at home, school, or in the community.
  • Understand Influences on Health: Children will recognize how family, friends, school, community, and the environment affect their own and others’ health and well-being.
  • Communicate and Express Themselves: Children will practice sharing their thoughts, feelings, and needs clearly, listen to others, and show kindness and respect.
  • Know Community Helpers: Children will learn who supports health in school and the community, and how to reach out to them when needed.
  • Care for Self and Others: Children will practice safe behaviors, respect personal boundaries, and demonstrate ways to help and show compassion for others.
  • Explore the Environment: Children will identify how the environment affects personal and community health.

Grade 3 - Grade 5

  • Build Healthy Habits: Students will learn how to use their strengths and practice behaviors that support physical, mental, and emotional wellness.
  • Stay Safe and Prevent Illness: Students will understand ways to reduce risks, manage health conditions, and know when and why to seek health care.
  • Understand Influences on Health: Students will explore how family, friends, school, community, and the environment affect their health and the health of others.
  • Use Health Resources Wisely: Students will identify trusted adults, health helpers, and reliable information, and understand the effects of misinformation.
  • Communicate Effectively: Students will practice expressing thoughts and feelings, listening actively, asking for help, setting boundaries, and using refusal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Care for Self and Others: Students will demonstrate kindness, compassion, and safe behaviors to support the well-being of themselves and those around them.
  • Explore the Environment: Students will recognize how the environment impacts personal and community health.
  • Develop Health Literacy: Students will examine how knowledge about health helps them make informed choices.
